Flotsam the Fool's Circus Workshops are run by Doug and Amber (with help from our daughter, Tessa). We've been running circus workshops since 2007 and in that time we have taught thousands of children (and adults) to juggle. The circus has bought so much fun into our lives that we just can't help sharing it with other people.
Doug has been juggling for over 20 years since his Granny bought him some juggling balls for his 12th Birthday. Later, he trained at The Circus Space (now the International Centre for Circus Arts) receiving a BTEC National in Circus Arts. Since then he has worked all over the country, and abroad, at venues including Wembley Stadium, Warwick Castle and a tour of Medieval Festivals in France.
Doug is skilled at a broad range of circus arts but his favourite is juggling balls because of the complex patterns they make in the air.
Amber grew up in a creative household. Her parents are children's entertainers teaching history through games and stories. She started teaching circus workshops in 2007 and especially enjoys finding out about the rich cultural history of circus and the skills that she teaches.
Amber enjoys spinning poi and is currently working to improve her repetoire of diabolo tricks.
Tess was born in 2005 and has been surrounded by the circus all her life. She loves to get involved in all the skills and is working really hard to learn how to do everything!
Tessa's favourite workshop memory was winning a hula hooping competition against American guests at Cardiff Castle when she kept her hoop up longer than anyone else!
